Sociology Education FKIP Lambung Mangkurat University in Banjarmasin has a long history. The historical journey of this study program can be described as follows: The Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) Banjarmasin was established on June 1, 1962 or a year after ULM officially became a state university. FKIP ULM was previously a merger of the expansion of education fields (Bi) consisting of: (1) History, (2) English, (3) Exact Sciences, and (4) Physical Education. In its development since 1964, FKIP ULM has become IKIP Bandung Banjarmasin Branch which has faculties, namely: (1) Social Sciences Teacher Training Faculty (FKIS), (2) Arts Literature Teacher Training Faculty (FKSS), and (3) Exact Sciences Teacher Training Faculty (FKIF).

Since becoming IKIP Bandung, Banjarmasin branch, the Physical Education Department, which was previously one of the departments at FKIP ULM, separated itself to become the Sports College (STO). IKIP Bandung, Banjarmasin Branch, is led by the Coordinating Dean/Presidium Member and each faculty is led by a Young Dean. In further developments since 1970, IKIP Bandung, Banjarmasin Branch, has reintegrated with ULM into two faculties, namely the Faculty of Teacher Training (FKg) and the Faculty of Education (FIP) of Lambung Mangkurat University, Banjarmasin. Furthermore, since July 1983 until now, the Faculty of Teacher Training (FKg) of Lambung Mangkurat University, Banjarmasin and the Faculty of Education (FIP) of Lambung Mangkurat University, Banjarmasin have rejoined (integrated) to become the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) of Lambung Mangkurat University, Banjarmasin and STO has rejoined FKIP of Lambung Mangkurat University, Banjarmasin under the name Department of Sports and Health Education (JPOK). At the beginning of the merger, FKIP ULM had 5 departments, namely: (1) Social Studies Education Department, (2) Language and Arts Education Department, (3) Mathematics and Natural Sciences Education Department, (4) Education Science Department, and (5) Sports Education Department. The Education Science Department has not accepted any more students since 1987, but has now been reopened, namely the School Guidance and Counseling Study Program. In further developments until now, FKIP ULM has 5 departments consisting of 21 active study programs: (1) Social Studies Education Department, with Study Programs: (a) History Education, (b) Economic Education, (c) Civic Education, (d) Geography Education and (e) Sociology Education, (f). Social Studies Education (2) Department of Language and Arts Education, with Study Programs: (a) Indonesian Language and Literature Education, (b) English Language Education, and (c) Dance and Dance Education, (3) Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Education, with Study Programs: (a) Mathematics Education, (b) Biology Education, (c) Chemistry Education, (d) Physics Education, (e) Science Education (4) Sports and Health Education, with Study Programs: (a) Physical Education and Health Education (5) Department of Educational Sciences, with Study Programs: (a) School Guidance and Counseling, (b) Elementary School Teacher Education-S1, (c) Early Childhood Education Teacher Education-PAUD, (d) Special Education (PLB), (e) Educational Technology, (d) Computer Education
